SAI Siem Reap–Angkor International opened on 16 October 2023, built and financed by China's Yunnan Investment Holdings Group on a 55-year concession. It replaced the old REP airport, which closed the same day after decades of operation. The site covers 700 hectares with a single modern terminal inspired by Khmer architecture.
The airport is built farther from the city to protect the Angkor Wat UNESCO heritage site from aircraft vibration and noise: which means every visitor now has a 50 km transfer ahead of them.
The old Siem Reap International Airport (IATA: REP) closed on 15 October 2023. It sat just 6–8 km from the city center and was operated by the VINCI Airports consortium. As of 2026, the site remains largely disused, with plans by AIAI to redevelop it into an entertainment and cultural hub: though no construction has started.
If you flew to Siem Reap before 2024, you used REP. All flights now use SAI. The two airports are completely separate sites with no connection.
